Are you cut for the SRX?

...read a short SRX history below or proceed to the next

    What is a cafe racer?

"the "cafe racer" ... for the benefit of Pinoys who may not understand this term ... it is a term they coined for bikes and their riders during the early days in Europe when these bikes (along with other thumpers ... named "thumper" coz of the thump thump thump sound of single cylinders) were very popular among bikers at the time ... and until today .. but during those times, they tend to form clubs.. meet in cafes ... and they race their bikes... oftentimes they play music in juke boxes ... ride away hurriedly ... race to a certain preset/predetermined point and race back to the cafe even before the music record playing on the juke box had ended... it was a golden era ... yes we may not be in the golden era today but some of the popular cafes in europe have been in operation until today coz there are still thumper clubs that frequent them .... are very active ... and still very amazed by their aging machines!

and after reading that .... Please don't attempt to do that "cafe racer behavior" here in the Pi-lipins with all the heavy traffic and the predictably unpredictable 2- or 4-wheeled riders that trail like a snake on our poorly maintained narrow roads..."

    Is the SRX for you?
    http://www.motorcyclephilippines.com...&postcount=205
The SRX ... born more than 2 decades ago .... built to last several lifetimes ...built to satisfy what the people crave for in the 80's... "killed" by the flawless marketing of the big and beautiful inline4's and vtwins (which I also would like to own someday... maybe the 600cc) ... remained humble yet so lovable ....

do you love to own a retro cafe racer bike or a small sporty bike with classic shapes and curves?
do you prefer a low seater bike? are you short legged .... or normal leg length but feel comfortable with low seater bikes?
do you like thin, light-weight bikes that save some space and can plow through tight non-moviing traffic?
do you like a cheap but very durable "tank-like bike" whose present rock bottom price has nowhere to go but up?
do you want to add another low maintenance bike to your garage (lower maintenance than 2-stroke air cooled scooters)?
do you want to feel how extreme banking/cornering on a bigbike feels like?
do you love the thumping rap beats of the old big bore single cylinder engines?
do you love single cylinders and how they vibrate/gyrate between your legs on high throttle?
what it is like to ride on one? ... why not try riding an srx in the twisties... why not read about it first? ..... why not make it your learner bike? ..

Assess roughly if restoration cost is acceptable to you...

list the parts that need changing... cross check with ORIG PARTS STORES and alternative parts or cheap DIY fixes... more of these to follow

FURTHER INFO ON SRX TECHNICAL SUPPORT/SERVICES IN MY GENERAL AREA
for those SRX owners near the paranaque/las pinas/alabang/muntinlupa/taguig areas ...

    A)
    SRX LEGAL/REGISTRATION/TRANSFER OR OWNERSHIP
I have my papers checked by Mr Bubuy Billeza ... he has knowledge of how to determine if the bikes papers are really legal or not... i think he also goes by his name in MCP.... I usually ask him about a bike's documents (plate numbers, area where registered...etc) over the phone..

    http://www.motorcyclephilippines.com...ad.php?t=48733

Once i get ownership of a vehicle, I bring xerox papers of the OR and CR in a notary public near city hall where all registration and transfer paper processing or the like can be done on a "non-apearance basis"... pwede din yata i-fax na lang sa kanila OR/CR of course bayaran cash...to this date ... govt has been discouraging the influx of used

vehicles in the country to help our local industries .. so di pwede i-register ang mga recently imported used bikes hanggang ngayon.. di pa na lift ang order na ito ... pero may pa ilan ilan na used bike importers na maganda ang connection at nakaka pag rehistro sa Diliman so may record... try to contact these dealers baka matulungan kayo.

    B)
    SRX ELECTRICAL REPAIRS/MAINTENANCE
There is Mr. Manny Go - well known bigbike electrical specialist here
There is also Mr. Jun Mendoza - also the developer of the Pinoy rectifier ... also an electronic whiz for bikes.. he is currently developing a cdi for bikes

    C)
    SRX MECHANICAL REPAIRS
Still confrming with George (big bike mechanic in Sucat area near NAIA).. still trying to confirm if he can do home service bike repairs... sana talaga pwede siya.
Manong Golem .. this guy is known in Tramo in Las Pinas ... I just met him once .. he can not do home service so the bike has to be brought to his shop in Tramo ...

    D)
    SRX OEM PARTS
Yamaha / Norkis Mandaluyong.. expensive and long waiting period pero ALL ORIG... my contact is Mr. Neil Sumayang

    also Norkis Cebu ...

try Caloocan Sales ... ask makilingrider mukhang suki na sya dun....

    online stores such as

    www.kneedraggers.com .....

    www.kedo.com .....

    www.granbymotors.co.uk/index.php

have not tried them yet ...

    smaller shops such as:
    Bentalls along Naga road
"Makilingrider" of MCP forum has a few srx parts for those in need

    E)
    SRX PROTECTIVE GEAR
so far .... Pinoy manufactured protective gear mabibili sa Taguig..

ROMRACING of MCP ang username nung gumagawa.. mukhang maganda ang gawa nila .. maraming satisfied customers...

    F)
    SRX RIDING LESSONS
want to join/ organize an srx riding lesson with lectures and hands on ... assisted by experienced big bikers? all we have to do is enlist as a group and we can enjoy the training...

contact me and if our numbers are good enough, we can find a good schedule and request a riding course... if we are lucky and we are many ... we can get it "almost free"

front brake pads- none has commented

    clutch line - none

battery, for monoshock model - price i (rolodge) got mine is 1200 (that one is for my twin shock version which is posted in past messages..) ... brand is "new power" YB5L-BS 12v5ah.... check my other posted messages; makilingrider says he uses 12N5-3B 12v10ah

K&N High Flow Air Filter YAMAHA SRX600 1986 - none has commented

standard air filter- still looking for my future use .. makilingrider has commented that he knows a guy in caloocan sales who can help me find an OEM but still have not tried to follow up on it. he suggested using scotchbrite... bamba says you might have to recheck plugs and tuning ... gary says wrap scotchbrite with screen to make sure no fibers get sucked by carbs

original SRX side mirror - none has commented

chain guard/slider- mwss pipe according to bleusteel and sangkalan according to bamba ... they are serious and not joking ... but they definitely are smiling coz of the huge savings ... LOL; Makilingrider mentions you can also have your SRX wear "tsinelas" or slippers; or the better alternative is use the hard rubber compounds used by shops that customize "engine supports" and "bushings"... that would definitely be a more professional looking DIY

std chain -readily available at caloocan sales says Bong of Los Banos

    RI/
    TDM

srx repair manual in pdf format - thanks to rockjock

tools - gary mentions tools including spark plug remover and alligator stands as srx bike lift

    Last reminders:
Check the bike's papers with LTO before buying it.. unless legit papers does not interest you

Attend a formal bigbike rider course .... even if you are an experienced biker, you might pick up a thing or two... that may save your life or someone else's life one day... there were more Pinoys who bought bikes last year compared to the year before that partly coz of traffic and rising fuel prices .. so you have more bikes on the road... more vehicles to avoid colliding with nowadays.. better sharpen your riding skills some more....

Always share any srx news/info in any of our srx threads ...

    ignition coil- none has commented

    ..
I have friends who are racing their bikes... I myself raced but VW which are also Aircooled. In my experience - Iridium is actually a very good spark plug. It's expensive but you never have to replace them again for as long as your bike lives.

A Bosch Blaster Ignition coil is a good match for this.

    By the way...

what is the torque rating of the average SRX engine? any idea?

Not a fan of Yamaha SRX but this bike is less maintanace and not to Expensive can afford by fellow bikers good to own than the underbone . I got an FZR 250RR Twin cam 16V engine inline four. and a 4 barrel Mikuni Carburator . This is my first bike and use it on a Batangas Racing Circuit. Good as a biginners bike like the SRX.
