July 1st, 2012 09:47 PM #5i think what he is saying, is that the timing gears inside the engine have first to be adjusted correctly by the mechanic working on the engine. this is usually adjusted only once in a long while, as when replacing timing belts or chains. if this adjustment is done incorrectly, then there is no way anyone can adjust external timing on that engine, which is what you are attempting to do.. also, it can result in (if it hasn't yet) engine damage..
