Greetings friends. Its been almost 4 years since I last posted here. Back then I was asking for advice re a Picanto i bought. That Picanto has long been sold na and I enjoyed every year of it. Now Im posting again to ask for everybody's expert opinion or experience.
I acquired a 1998 Adventure GLS M/T Dsl. Its in running condition, not really worn looking. Aircon is ok, instrument panel is also working. 110k sa odometer, hindi naman na-ondoy.
Its my first time to handle a diesel car/engine.
I dont hav a background as to its maintenance or repair history so i plan to have it checked. Parang general checkp. so my question is this:
What are the parts/components that need
1) replacing outright
2) adjustment or repair
3) checking
Like for example, sabi ng driver namin, change oil na agad along with filters since we dont know when was the last change oil. Palitan ko ba lahat ng mga belts? Any particular belt na dapat pinaka importante mapalitan? Fuel pumps? Compression test ba?
Is calibration in order na? Kelangan ba ipacheck ang fuel injection (i just read this from another thread).
Meron bang common electrical issue ang adventure na dapat unahan ko na at maipagawa?
May nakabudget ako na money for engine rehab na around 20-30k kung talagang kailangan.
Thanks guys and im happy to be back

June 9th, 2012 04:14 AM #2Timing belt kung di pa napalitan - every 60k -70k kms (eldorado and shaw mrch said 70k-80k kms)
package na bibilin lahat orig para magtagal ulit ng another 60k-70k kms mahirap maputulan sira engine
Eto papalitan (you can ask for Tbelt package sa eldorado or shaw mechandise cost 8500)
Timing belt - 1
balancer belt - 11
oilseals - 4
tensioner and balancer bearing -2 (kahit di orig basta japan)
pwede mo pacheck v-belk for cracks
check mo din filter (air and fuel)
underchassis mga bushing (matibay naman undeerchassis ng advie)
adjustments: valve clearance
yan lang napagawa ko dun sa 9-year old kong Advie bago ko isoli sa mom in law ko teh rest ok pa
heheh nakabili na ako GLX SE 2012

June 12th, 2012 09:38 AM #5The Adventure uses the veteran 4d56 engine. Just keep the changing the oil every 5000 kms. T belt every 70 to 80T kms. Gear oil about 40,000 kms, brake fluid every 2 years, keep the radiator rust free and it will serve you well for a very long time.
We use 4 L300 delivery vans for our business. Same engine with the adventure. Almost no problems inspite of very little maintenace.
You may want to have the water pump replaced at the same time as the timing belt.

Thanks userfriendly. You even included the schedule, salamat talaga. Noon ang gusto ko sana unahin yung mga tint, seat covers etc pero naisip ko it will be wiser if i focused on a good running engine.
So in summary:
Timing belt package
Filters
V-belts
water pump
bushing
Gear oil
Brake fluid
May nakalimutan pa ba?

I guess yan nalang muna medyo malaki laki na yan..
yung pang ilalim matibay yan for adventure unless may maramdaman kang kalampag.
