When it was launched in 1987, the wait list stretched for a year or more! As in today, back then you would need "connections" on the inside in order to jump the queue.
Landmark Makati was raffling off these L300 Versa Van starting in 1989.
The biggest weakness of this model is its aircon system. The ref style of early models did not provide quick cooling on hot days (our '88 L300 VV). The aircon compressor is located quite low on the chassis so if you like flood fording during typhoon season, this will surely conk out. It conked out on our Local Exceed (98 Japan CBU) and L300 '99 VV.
The Versa Van maybe gone. But the L300 face will continue to live on through the FB and delivery vans.Last edited by number001; August 10th, 2013 at 11:42 PM.

August 11th, 2013 12:18 AM #16Pahirapan nga makakuha ng L300 VV back in the day, my parents used their "connections" kaya we got ours in 1 month (1988). Dati kasi wala rin ibang choice if you're in the market for a van, the only other van in the market back then was the "chopchop" surplus Toyota Town Ace. Actually 3 yung naging L300 namin, 88 and 94 Diesel VV and 89 Aluminum van (gas) pero di masyado tumagal sa amin yung mga L3 namin. Yung gas na VV namin was sold after 3 years kasi di na mapatino yung A/C saka lakas na mag overheat towards the end.

But still this vehicle is legendary.

We had the 1988 model. Engine was the 1.8L with the aircon unit behind the passenger seat. Instant roasted yagbols pag sakay sa front seats. :D Laging iwan pa yung n/a 4D56 1986 Pajero namin pag paakyat ng Baguio. Definitely had a lot of fond childhood memories with the L300 VV.
