You can't just install an airbag. You have to install the deployment sensors (properly, mind you... there's a set position and distance, and you can't just put them anywhere) and the control hardware for the bag.
Also note, if the steering column is non-adjustable, you'll want to get used to sitting further away from the steering wheel, just in case. Especially if you're short or have short arms. Airbags can break ribs. Especially if you don't have the software and extra weight sensors in the driver's seat needed for a two-stage airbag that uses a slower inflation rate for shorter or lighter drivers.
