January 29th, 2011 02:26 PM #252Appreciate the inputs and suggestions Sir normyline22 and Sir SG. Ang hirap lang kasi sa Tucson, wala silang pang test drive, Ive been to three different dealers nung Dec. wala silang unit for Test driving na tucson puro Sold out hehehhehe, Sta. Fe lang and pwede. Sa monty naman walang problema sa test driving, pa schedule ka lang . Hope i could TD those 2 para ma feel ko diff nila. Anyways, will keep you posted and will continue to read your post on this thread.

I do not know why you say pure mechanical, as it is not pure mechanical. The actuator is mechanical, but as the posts before me point out there is electrical/electronic/vacumn included.
The Hyundai uses a servo motor (like the ones that control steering on a remote control car (in principal)) from the ECU direct.
I cannot see how eVGT could be trademarked to Hyundai as they neither invented VGT or eVGT. I think that prize goes to Schwitzer, who actually made and put it to use in 1990. They were probably not the inventors but they were first to apply it to a turbo engine

January 29th, 2011 04:39 PM #255Nice one SG!
At Expatio,
I fully understand that stability , handling, and maneuverability are not only attributable or influenced by location of center of gravity and higher ground clearance, but as you said so also by tires/tyres, suspension, tire track, and driver's style, manners, and behavior.
Center of gravity of a car or SUV in general is hard to compute as it will require application of complex equation like calculus. Unlike a span of lumber or a piece of square sheet of metal, which are longitudinally symmetrical, thus, center of gravity can be determined easily and in general at the middle/midpoint or center. I beg to disagree that the center of gravity of the MS and SF are the same. It will not require an expert or a trained eye to determine which has the better and lower center of gravity. I need not elaborate more as it is obvious. In general, the higher the ground clearance, the higher the center of gravity, thus, the higher the chances for a roll over.
To think that my post is a criticism to the MS is far from truth. When I said that "having a VGT in the 2011 MS may border already on the unsafe side", what I meant was that "in the event that owner's/driver's be tempted or tried maneuvering during high speed runs of the MS the risk of a roll-over is magnified and higher." This is because owners of the 2011 MS may be tempted even more to overspeed because of the higher HP and torque under the MS's hood. Sometimes, new-found power is hard to contain. If you may read it right, it was just a word of caution. Everything will depend upon the manners and habits of the drivers behind the wheel (as you have mentioned). I just hope and prayed that by increasing the HP and torque of the 2011 MS Mitsubishi engineers considered the general dynamics of the chassis, frame, suspension, etc. of the MS. Other's may not share the same opinion, but the mere stance alone by the MS, as well as the other SUV's in the local market having higher ground clearance already invokes higher center of gravity, thus, higher probability of a roll-over.
You need not to mention Ferrari F60 being on the unsafe side or getting into accident probably because of reckless driving or being in the wrong hands as you will only magnify the severity of the the accident just to make a point. Everybody knows that already. Even a reckless user of a bicycle or a skateboard will suffer the same fate. Nonetheless, chances of a Ferrari F60 rolling-over is very very low or almost impossible as it is basically designed to stick to the road and attack curves and chicanes easily at incredible speed. Pardon for the Ferrari thing!
I beg to disagree also that an SUV designed and built to be more-car like (actually, it is more of a CUV, but with the stance and capability of an SUV and having a car-like manners and handling) is more dangerous. The opposite, as the SUV-CUV will be more likely to be safe as it will handle better than an SUV on a ladder-frame chassis. Considering everything being equal and driver being the same, MS and SF driven to its respective limit will have different results.
Also, it doesn't necessarily mean that a car, SUV, or CUV driven to its limit may have a drunk driver or a driver without license. The thrill of speed will always be there among drivers. It is only up to us to hold ourselves and not be tempted to border above the limit and regret the result in the end.
But here in the Philippines, there are really many drunk drivers and drivers without license. Nothing special about that as those are known facts of everyday life on the road.
On the Land Rover roll-over incidents you mentioned, I rather not comment on that as there are only a handful of Land Rovers in the Philippines, thus, not applicable and not worth of enyone's time. MS and Fortuners are so manny. Good SUVs I would say.
In the end, what I posted was only a word of advice to take the required caution on the 2011 MS and even the current MS based on the factors above. It's up to you guys and gals to decide. The word "Montero" itself means "Mountain Warrior", which is self-explanatory. Just be careful when driving on-road. I have considered getting the MS, Fortuner, and CX7 before in 2010 but settled for another SUV-CUV after months of researches and testing.
For the prospective buyers, if you will care to consider, please try to check further. Personally, strange it may seem- "it is the car that will choose the owner/driver." Peace!
Warm regards.
