My friend John Foppe was born with no arms.
But John never asks the question,
"WHY do I have no arms?"
The question he asks is,
"WHAT can I do with my feet?"
Having watched John eat with chopsticks, I'd say,
"Almost anything!"
When tragedy strikes, or when we lose everything, or when a lover walks out on us, the question we usually ask is "WHY?"
"WHY me?"
"WHY now?"
"WHY did she leave me for a loser?"
Asking "WHY?" questions can send us in circles.
Often, there is no answer to "WHY?"
Or it doesn't matter why!
Effective people ask "WHAT?" questions ...
"WHAT do I learn from this?"
"WHAT am I going to do about it?"
When the situation is really desperate, they ask,
"WHAT can I do, just in the next 24 hours, to make things better?"
In a Nutshell
The happiest people don't bother about whether life is "fair". They just make the most of what they have.
And is life fair? Probably not. But it doesn't matter why.

June 17th, 2005 04:11 PM #2just early this week, i heard from a very admiring person a short story of his life for the past four years. Its ups and downs. And on the most difficult times, i never heard him asked "why that thing happened to him", instead he just said "Kahit pla gaano mo pinlano ang buahy mo, basta ginusto ng Diyos, wla na tayong magagawa."
i must admit, i , myself asked "why?" many times. But later realizing that thre are reasons why everythng is happening. We may not know what they are at the very moment but for sure, God will tell us why.

So... instead of asking, "Why is the Philippines going to the dogs?" we should be asking, "What can I do to improve the lot of my countrymen and the state of my motherland?"
That's a good paradigm shift.
