i used to be the all-manual fanatic. had the metal dinosaur nikon F2AS, with heavy 50mm 1.4 lens and bazooka 80-200 zoom, and the huge 285 flash. very heavy. very professional. and when the shooting starts, i could hide behind them.
then i graduated to the F3HP. still big, but AE already.
then the AFs: 301, 801, 2000, with matching AF zooms. good for slower reflexes.
now, with failing eyesight, slower reflexes and bad back, i just put the paperclip box-sized lumix zoom point n shoot in my pocket... if i'm not going to enlarge the pictures to life-size, it won't matter.
Lumix zs7. I like: the gps kahit slow at minsan inaccurate location, custom settings, compact, lightweight, cheap? around 13k iirc in 2010, and 12x zoom for the paparazzi shots. Mag upgrade ako pag may compact na 30x zoom na. Cons are: weak flash and not so intelligent auto mode.
