May 7th, 2015 09:20 AM #5061New storm enters PH, but wont make landfall
May 07, 2015 05:24am
MANILA, Philippines--Tropical Storm "Dodong" (international name: Noul) will enter the Philippine area of responsibility Thursday morning and is expected to affect eastern Visayas, the Bicol region and northern Luzon over the weekend, the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the storm may further intensify from its current strength of 100 kilometers per hour maximum winds once inside the Philippine area of responsibility.
"The latest forecast models show it will not make landfall," Pagasa meteorologist Gladys Saludes said.
She said Dodong's effects will be felt starting Friday over the eastern Visayas and the Bicol region.
Given its present track, the cyclone will head toward northern Luzon and affect Isabela and the rest of Cagayan Valley and Aurora province on Saturday and Sunday.
"It will come close to Cagayan Valley but it will not make landfall. It will exit by Monday," Saludes said.
Coming at the height of the dry season, the cyclone will bring much-needed rains over Luzon.
Saludes said Metro Manila may experience moderate rains once Dodong nears Luzon.
This will be the fourth cyclone to hit the country this year. Pagasa said on the average one to two cyclones hit the country during the month of May.

Correction: this storm can turn nasty according Nathaniel Cruz, since the Northeast monsoon which caused the 2 previous storms to dissipate is gone. Possibility of turning to a super typhoon...:P

Typhoon 'Dodong' (international name 'Noul') is seen to make landfall in Isabela on Sunday if it continues its track, Panahon TV said on Thursday.
Dodong is expected to affect Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon due to its size, which was measured at 400 kilometers in diameter.
By Saturday, it is expected to pass close to Bicol and Samar provinces.
Dodong slightly intensified midday Thursday with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 170 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said at 11a.m.
The typhoon was last spotted 925 kilometers east northeast of Surigao City. It moved faster at 17 kph west northwest.
Heavy to intense rain is expected within the typhoon's area of circulation. In the next 24 to 36 hours, rains are expected in eastern Visayas and Bicol.
