you don't buy it in a drug store nowadays, since it's not a prescription drug. In fact, it isn't used as a medicinal drug anymore.
In the past, chloroform was used in surgery as an inhaled anesthetic. However, because of its toxicity, it has been replaced with safer alternatives.
Chloroform is now used in refrigerants, resins, propellants, and as a solvent or reagent in some chemical processes. This means you can acquire this wherever you can buy chemical products. Even some hardware stores i've visited before sell it.

November 5th, 2007 10:52 AM #6while chloroform can render a person unconscious, it is not instantaneous, and the person will have the time to fight back. masakit sa pang-amoy ang chloroform at ether kaya bago pa lang mailapat sa mukha ninyo ang panyo na may ether or chloroform, pihadong maiisip na ninyo kaagad yun at makakalaban pa kayo (kung gugustuhin ninyo).
if there was a volatile (gas) anesthetic na walang amoy na madaling magpatulog ng tao, sana ito na ang ginagamit sa mga hostage situations or mga hijacking events para mapatulog ang mga perpetrators. sadly, walang ganitong gamot.

Actually, chloroform is a clear liquid with a "pleasant", non-irritating odor, sometimes even "sweet-smelling". Kaya nga it was used before as an anesthetic kasi the smell can be tolerated. It's toxicity is the reason why it has been replaced with other anesthetics.
However, you are right na you would be able to smell it as it has a distinctive odor. Kaya you would definitely have a chance to fight back. If you would succeed in fighting back is another matter altogether.
yung last paragraph mo could go either way. if existent, pwedeng gamitin yun ng crime elements to perform the highjacking and hostage-taking incidents in the first place.
