Woah, that Pirelli calendar is causing more than its usual rumpus. In the pro camp, not just gazillions of testosteroned-up men, but more thoughtful types who regard it as a celebration of the female form. In the anti, those who find it exploitative, ***ist and bordering on soft ****. As a colleague on The Daily Telegraph business desk argues, these kinds of pictures, plastered across the internet, aren't helping government and City efforts to get women out of stereotypes and into boardrooms, and are not doing a huge amount in the battle against *** discrimination and laddishness in the workplace, either.
And caught in the middle of the debate? People, like me, who have seen so many bare breasts that they've learned to zone out, partly to spare the owners' blushes. "Did you see how embarrassed that 19-year-old model looked coming down the catwalk?" a (male) colleague will ask. Er, no, but I loved the chartreuse and khaki block-coloured clutch bag she was carrying....
