Pets replace children in Japan
Monday, 18 June 2012 13:19 BusinessDay Staff
Japan’s population is aging and shrinking faster than first thought, according to latest estimates.
Reports today suggested there are now more pets in Japan than children under fifteen; with pets especially dogs taking the place of children because Japanese are either too busy to find time for a family or they believe they simply cannot afford one given the worsening economic situation.
While the birthrate has been falling dramatically and the average age of Japan's population has been steadily climbing, Japan has become a pet superpower. Official estimates put the pet population at 22 million or more, but there are only 16.6 million children under 15.
Estimates show Japan’s population of 127 million could shrink by as much as a third by 2060.Last edited by Monseratto; June 19th, 2012 at 08:30 AM.

In the Philippines, at least from my perspective, families from the middle and upper income classes are also having less kids (1-2 kids, okay na), and marrying later. I also think its due to the same reasons that we want to make sure we can provide our children with a good quality of life (education, shelter, etc) and likewise enjoy the fruits of our labor (Travel, cars, houses, investments, etc.). Although i don't know the statistics, the problem is that it's the lower classes that are exploding in terms of population so our government becomes more taxed to support this sector.
Does Japan need to repopulate? I'm sure some tsikoteers will be happy to go over there and help them (paging yung mga mahilig sa Jap schoolgirls dyan :naughty2.

taas kasi ng cost of living sa Japan
so people marry later in life or not marry at all
it's a demographic nightmare. they're not producing enough young people to replace old people (kabaligtaran ng Pinas)
tapos against pa sila sa immigration
Japan must allow foreign workers to become citizens
but they're afraid mawala ang Japanese culture -- Japan would lose its Japan-ness if immigrants grow in number
