Yeah... sobrang bulok ang Philippines, ano? Tayo lang walang barriers?

Just like those backwards third world stations in the US, Japan and Europe... ano?

Oh... so that's why Japan has that suicide by train law.

Most of these new metropolitan stations with barriers were built after the MRT. And if they were so great at preventing deaths, why aren't they putting them up everywhere? A suicide is a suicide, and they'll find a way to do it, with or without trains.

The big problem really, is our system punishes train drivers, who have absolutely no way to stop in time to avoid such accidents, and should be exempt from these charges.

    Yun nga sabi ko.

Kung gusto magpakamatay nung tao gamit yung tren, by all means... go!

Pero huwag naman sana idadamay yung walang sala, in this case the train driver.

Bulok kasi yun SOP na yan dito eh

I'd think the point of the barriers is to not have people off themselves via the trains and inconvenience everybody else who haven't given up on their lives, yeah? putting up the platform doors should also get rid of the potential for accidentally pushing somebody on the tracks.

Mga tao dito iba wala disiplina

Sa Singapore, ok lang na may barrier coz the people there are "calm"

Dito tingin niyo pag may barrier tatagal yung barrier?

all the more reason to have the barrier in place. no discipline plus rush hour equals more potential for harm. should we again wait for more incidents to happen and install the barriers after people get hurt and/or killed or have them installed to get rid of the risk now?

The problem is... if we have barriers, people will still feel free to push and crowd and push... before the guards became strict, after the last incident, people on the LRT would physically push you all the way to the edge of the platform. With a glass barrier, they'll just shove the people in front into it... lalo na pag rush hour. If it's a flimsy barrier with no solid steel beams holding the panes in, the whole thing could collapse (remember Wowowee?). Without the barriers, people are more conscious. They stand back and don't jostle as much as they did when the LRT was new. Then again, I don't ride as often as I used to.

I agree, though, that barriers might help. Just pointing out that simply because we don't have them doesn't make us third class. Very few train systems use barriers. The mortality rate from people falling onto the tracks, given the volume of foot traffic through the station, isn't even as big as the mortality rate due to bus accidents. Hell... hundreds more die in bus accidents every year than from falling on the tracks at the LRT/MRT. If I recall, I've heard of only three or four incidents in the past ten or twenty years.

Wait natin si OB kung ano masasabi niya sa mga train stations sa Europe.

On a side note, glass barriers work in SG kasi airconditioned yung mga train stations nila (although hindi ko alam kung lahat ganun). Imagine ganun dito sa atin. Crowded rush hour na wala pang ventilation.

barrier also i think helps with the energy efficiency.. sa subway (Hongkong, Singapore)... air condiitioned ang mga stations.. the barriers also act as dividers to help maintain temperature in the area... para di sayang ang aircon.. at least i think naka benefit din aircon system dun sa ganun....
