    I have this thai fish sauce. Its 10x more pungent than lorins.

    yes, it is.
    i also have the same thai patis on our dining table.
    mahina na ang lasa ng ating local patis.
    in the olden days, patis was tastier. (or was my palate more sensitive, back then? heh heh.)
    there was even this "patis pang-regalo". it was a more intense variety of patis. rice and this alone, mabubusog ka na. it wasn't found in the stores. this was specially formulated not for commercial purposes, but for "pang-regalo".

    if you ask for patis, they give you toyo.
    if you want patis, you ask for "rufina".

    i do not know.
    from what i understand, the pang-regalo i refer to, comes from the bottom-most part of the patis fermentation column, just above the bagoong.
    so yes, i suppose it is medyo malabo...
