My plan for my next years project- a fiberglass or better still a carbon fiber bootlid...Have anyone done a similar project? Any inputs (materials/ cost)? Thanks.

November 4th, 2007 12:45 AM #2Hindi ko pa nagawa yan pero may idea ako sa fiberglass.
roughly the cost ng fiberglass (if DIY) ay P130/kg (mahigit 2 sqm na yun...enough for your project). Resin ratio is 3:1 fiberglass...thus you'll need 3kg polyester resin and harderner (flexi and heat-protected dapat) siguro nasa P150/kg yun so P450 na.
you will also need a layer of Gelcoat (probably 1kg is enough or baka sobra pa nga) and component harderner - roughly P175/kg.
so if you have mold na - that would be P130 + P450 + P175 roughly = P755 na.
if you don't have a mold you'll probably spend 3 to 4 times nyan pa to do the mold (5 to 8 layers kasi dapat ang mold para matibay.
kung i-carbon fiber mo yan, carbon fiber is about P4500/sqm.

Sir,
san po kayo nabili ng fiber resin? madali lang po ba gumawa ng fiber, parang mixing like epoxy lang po ba?
Also, how do you get the weaved effect?
Thank You!

Maraming branches sila, nasa Pasig ang main (11 J. Borris St, Ugong Pasig) this is along C-5 after the overpass bridge from Kalayaan/Fort. Yung merun Security bank sa kanto ang J. Borris.
For details, google their company name...merun silang website.
The resin is semi liquid state (and the MEKP or hardener). It solidifies after 20mins or more pagpinaghalo mo or through time (can't keep the raw mat more than 2 or 3 months). Mas madali pa kaysa sa epoxy magmix nito - a plastic cup and a wooden stirrer is all you need basically.
Several videos are in You Tube (including what I uploaded) - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TvYrCgtf54"]YouTube - PPI Fiberglass Making[/ame]
Advance discussions - search mo yung gawa ng "GO FAST FIBERGLASS"
Maraming available weave design - common nga lang yung chopped mat or "no weave"

Thanks for the input, wildthing bro. will try on a moldless one. First try ko rin ito so medyo hit / miss mangyayari siguro. May nakita akong bulok sa front panel ng car kaya iniisip ko instead na usual latero ay fiberglass repair ang gagawin ko para practice na rin. ........

November 4th, 2007 09:46 AM #6masarap na project yan kasi maliit lang... kaso it is difficult to make a mold from the original metal hood... kasi baka magalos mo ito when separating the mold na.
