But I wonder how the real world sales are here in the Philippines?

I hardly see any on the road in the few times that I am out.

I chanced upon 2 new Mazda3 and CX-30 last Sunday on my way to Landmark Trinoma QC. Mas malaki siguro and probability na makita siguro mga ito kapag weekend, malamang baka work from home mga owners during weekdays [emoji23]

A few of my neighbors have Mazda3, Mazda6, CX5, and CX9. Wala ako napansin na CX30. Mas marami pa naka Explorer at LC200 kaysa CX9.

The CX30 came out during the pandemic after the BP3. Not many out there.

So does it mean the popular best-selling cars are the “winners”?

Not an excuse if you ask me. People still bought cars last year. It’s a hard sell for crossovers with gas engines, much more if it’s over 2M.

I can still vividly remember my conversation with a coworker who has a family biz buy/sell car. I told her I prefer the Mazda3 over the Toyota Altis and Honda Civic. Driving dynamics, simplicity of the interior controls (physical buttons better than touchscreen), elegant exterior design.

She told me "but Mazda has very low resale value"

To which I said "I don't buy a car for high resale value. It's a long term relationship for me. I buy something because it will meet my daily driving needs, and because I love the car."

Yes, I have an emotional attachment to all the cars my family has owned.

Most cars depreciate value after being sold. Resale value is not a huge factor for me.

Even the Toyota RAV4 is not selling well.

perhaps that is one reason why some cars are not better-sellers.
they have a low resell value, because they are not good sellers brand-new.
they are not good sellers, brand-new, because of their perceived low resell value.
    the vicious cycle.

CX30 is the ugly duckling of the kodo family. Huge wheel arches on a lifted hatchback looks awkward af. 1.5M for the base model, its priced not to sell. Just like the Rav4.

No wonder we're seeing so many Ford Territories and Geely Coolrays. Looks, power, and price make for a best seller in the subcompact crossover segment never mind if its from China.
