Very optimistic indeed. My daily-driven Forester XT (with about the same power output but in a lighter chassis) in Metro Manila traffic is doing only around 6-7 km/L.Quote:

Granted, most CX-9 owners (and myself, when I tested it) do 100-120 on the highway... but I never saw better than 10-12 km/l from that car... and that's with hypermiling. Manskee drives a lot faster than I do, so for him to get 12 km/l on the highway is a very good sign.
I've no doubt it will be similar to the Fozzie XT in traffic... but then, it could be possible that the CX9 does eke out a slight advantage with iStop and Mazda's proprietary high-compression SkyActiv engine architecture.
All the torque of this car comes at 2000 rpm which is very similar to a diesel. So its possible. The Fozzie XT gets it peak torque at around 3700 rpm.
