Not shocking, extraordinary or unprecedented. As noted by this guy in that Lexus forum:

Pearlescent paints are a pain in the ass, and very, very, VERY difficult to match if you need to respray just one or two panels. (Have had to repaint a pearlescent green Crosswind in the past)
