I installed HIDs on my former '03 XUVi (same OEm headlights as your '02)... and I must say I was happy.
I would suggest that you just have the OEM headlights properly cleaned (not smoked for this is the opposite of what you aim to attain). That should provide better light reflection --- thus visibility for the driver (you).
Wag ka na mag projector-type for it looks aftermarket. Not to mention dagdag gastos pa.

HIDs only require 35w (vs. the standard 55/60w for halogens). Technically, mas "malamig" pa nga eto kesa sa halogens... but brighter.
From my experience, I have used HIDs on the crystal-type OEM headlamps of the XUVi for 3 years and I see no deterioration on the plastic lens.
Regarding the 2010 Crosswind projector headlamps, di lang yun plug and play. Wiring harness is entirely different. Thou a seasoned electrician can make the conversion but i don't recommend it. Best to use the originally-designed headlight harness.

IMO the projector upgrade is a good way to minimize glare to oncoming vehicles...

Yes, ganyan din. It's hard to explain but let me try narrate.
Ideally, HIDs are not meant to be double contact. Meaning low beam lang dapat yun. Some aftermarket HIDs developed an "assumed" high-low function (with that slide function that produces a relatively high clicking sound when shifting from low to high beam). This is not recognized by the vehicle and still consider the function as a all-low function.
That is why when real H4 bulbs (halogen) are mounted in the headlight, it does not experience this problem. Nothing to be alarmed thou, it's just that you wont have that "high beam indicator" in your instrument gauges.
