June 15th, 2008 10:15 AM #2if you want to engage to 4low. full stop. trans in neutral. then shift 4low. same with dis-engaging.
you need to do a reverse if the 4x4 light in the dashboard is still lit upon dis-engaging. the hub is auto. i havent experience our trooper (96 local) that goy stuck on 4x4 that i had to reverse to dis-engage.
max speed in the owner's manual was 60kph i think or 80kph. safe side is max 60kph when shifting from 4x2 to 4Hi (running ofcourse).
max speed for 4hi? wala sa manual e.
max speed for 4low? well till it doesnt over rev. so check your rpm (redline).

June 17th, 2008 11:50 AM #4wala sa manual or sa sun visor ng driver's side ang instructions?
well sa akin ganito:
2H to 4H - shift on the fly (meaning while moving) up to 40 kph. ganun din to disengage.
4h to 4L - complete stop. put transmission in neutral. step on the clutch pedal and quickly/seamlessly shift to 4L. ganun din to disengage.
to disengage the auto hub, go in the reverse direction for about 1 meter.
as much as possible, don't use 4wd on concrete or hard surfaces as it may cause "binding" and damage the transfer case.
4H is used for gravel or sand. 4L is used for mud, snow or rocks.
use 4wd only when applicable (stuck in mud, very very steep ascents, etc.). so unless you're into hard core trailing or cross muddy or sandy terrains, you'd probably never use 4wd.

June 17th, 2008 07:34 PM #5hi batosai. 4hi can be used on slippery conditions like wet roads or gravel roads. beach sand also. what i usually do, here in isabela when traveling, is engage 4hi when the road is about to turn into gravel (example e yung hinuhukay ng mga dpwh na di nila matapos tapos) then just when im about to go to cemented roads again i shift (on the fly) to 4x2. note that you should be running on controllable speeds. caution lang batosai. the 4x4 mechanism, either the 4hi or 4low, is not a license to drive hap hazardly. it just gives us drivers more control when the going gets tough. try it first on low speeds.
4low meanwhile as mentioned by Coiter is used on really sticky situations. this includes muddy terrain and small river crossings. things like that. and steep uphills or downhills (as long as not paved/cemented roads). 4low also has the benefit of a lower gear thus giving you more torque. this helps when you get stuck or going uphills.
