October 28th, 2004 04:33 PM #5Just curious, how many barrels of oil are needed to produce (factory, materials, workers transpo, other resource directly/indirectly needed, etc...) to produce fuel cells and other alternative fuel sources?
Baka naman inakyat lang upstream sa value chain ng product yung consumption ng fossil fuel.

Bingo! Di pa cost efficient ang Hydrogen... aside from the extreme cost in terms of vehicle production, the pump-to-tank-cost-ratio is about ten or twenty times worse than that of gas, and much worse than most any other alternative fuel.

hydrogen will never be an answer because it isn't available as a raw fuel, the way hydrocarbon-fuels (crude oil and its byproducts, methane, natural gas, biodiesel, etc.) are. Hydrogne will always have to be produced, and right now, there is no cost effective way to do it. At the rate battery tech is going, we may sooner see a hydro-solar-wind-geothermal power infrastructure powering an electric transport system.
If hydrogen ever becomes commercially viable, maybe our problems will be over... but it will take another few decades of hydrogen production and storage research before it becomes possible.
