December 28th, 2023 07:09 AM #6Apologies for reviving an older thread, but my policy has always been: Search before clogging up forums with new repeat threads! :D
Ever since driving a car with a sunroof(moonroof) in 2009, I cannot go back to driving without!
First, I would like to iterate what I do know about the moonroof situation in the Philippines:
1. Extreeeemely unpopular.
2. Some auto manufacturers, whom I have contacted directly, won't even market sunroofs or export cars with them to Philippines, due to this low demand.
The reasons for this, which I have heard from within Philippines and without:
1. "It's a hot country"
2. "They leak moisture after a while"
3. As related to #2. steep tropical sun angle warps the stripping/ molding around the sunroof glass.
4. Easy vehicle theft.
Despite all of the above, I still, as the saying goes, 'want what I want', and am willing to wait any amount of time for the right combination of mileage, features, and price, for a vehicle with the overhead glass.
To the first reason: "Hot country". Which exactly why you want an opening up top: Heat escapes upward, especially after parked in a hot parking lot all day.
As for personal reasons, when I discovered the sunroof culture, I quickly embraced the airy, bright, open feeling of a car with the top open.
Also, I would be spending most time driving above 1,000 meters, with occasional time spent in Manila and other lowland areas.
So my questions are:
What is the sunroof/moonroof situation in the Philippines in the 2020s, vs back when this thread was put up?
And, what are my prospects for finding such a vehicle in the Philippines, in the 2020s? I'm not looking for brand new. It can be 5-10 years old, 50,000 up to 100,000km on the clock is ok.
-------
Pwedeng 5-10 years old, 50,000 up to 100,000km on the clock is ok.

^ sunroofs, moonroofs, or panoramic sunroofs ( as they're marketed here) are no longer novelty car features in the local motoring market in recent years. although, they're usually sold as standard fare only on SUVs or on top tier MPVs. it's also an oem amenity on some late model midsized sedans like camrys, sonatas, accords, etc

December 29th, 2023 10:43 AM #8what i do not like about sunroof,
"it wreaks havoc on the aircon."
heh heh.
i can imagine in temperate countries, where sunlight is at a premium at certain times of the year, hence sunroofs.
but yes,
it really depends on what one wants to experience.

Never ko nagamit sa akin, yun leak naman usually it's beacuse of lack of maintenance, nagbabaea yun drain.
If it's comes with he car then ok if wala Ok pa din.

December 30th, 2023 03:29 PM #10By the way, and this is something that fails to register in my original country, but the difference between the terms 'sun'roof and 'moon'roof is simply the material from which the operating panel is made!
As seen from above, on a car with a sunroof, the opening part is of matching material, ie: metal, with color matching the car body.
With a moonroof, the material is typically glass, with 5-20 percent tinting. A moonroof will normally possess a second sliding element underneath - a sunshade - when no daylight is desired.
