If you're to choose a coding vehicle but prefer the old school/classic type, which will it be?

    • Muscle car (mustang, camaro, etc)
Just the hardtop/coupe, as the Fastback is insanely priced

    • Landcruiser BJ40
Most versatile among the choices, but probably has the harshest ride.

    • Superbeetle/Karmann Ghia
Not much KGs being sold. Superbeetle goes for around 75K to 200K, depending on condition.

Beetle is the most practical. Economical and easy to work on.

The LC is also practical but not comfortable. Also considered it as a coding car. Sobrang mahal pa considering the age, makakabili ka na ng malayong mas bago na Suzuki Esteem.

I've never though of having a Muscle car as a coding car. Weekend car maybe.

strictly sa three choices lang ba talaga?

kasi ako for old school, i only have two choices eh. and that is a toyota sprinter or a starlet. sarap kasi, endless mods possibilites. sarap maging toy car without much of a hassle sa maintenance.

And of course, resell value nga nya.

Hehe...medyo malapit pa kasi ako sa office, kaya gagamitin na rin sya sa coding. Otherwise, weekend nga talaga.

also thought of the starlet & sprinter, kaya lang hindi pa yata sila ganun ka-classic/old school..

they are definitely old-school... pero i doubt they would be considered classic. yung sprinter, siguro, early 1970's, siguro pwede mo na rin masabing classic...lalo na kung na-restore na ng maayos. pero minsan kasi, subjective yung term na classics e.

The BJ40 may be kind of expensive for its age, and it may ride like a sack of rocks, but it's a real man's car... yup. I rode my uncle's BJ40 quite a lot when he bought it a few years ago, and I figured that, though the ride is bad, it was a decent enough car... c'mon, we've all ridden jeepneys one time or another... and it's terrifically capable. We took it in the mud, through water deep enough to sink trucks... man, it was fun!

Then I had to borrow it when my car was at the shop. I took it from his house to my house, and by the time I'd maneuvered it into my garage, I was sweating like a pig (even with the aftermarket-installed AC on full blast) from wrestling with the non-power steering, trying to get those Mickey Thompsons to come around. I gave him back the keys and decided to commute... :hysterical:

I must be a wimp, I guess... his wife drives it all the time.

Personally, for a coding car, for these prices, get a Kia Pride and mod the hell out of it. Hehehe... just kidding. I'm actually partial to the BJ40 (puwede naman salpakan ng power steering) or even a 70's Celica... just restore the Celica with original trimming, good paint and period mags, it's still a looker... or, within your budget, how about a 240Z?

    But still, BJ40... ambangis. Hehehe.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

A BJ40 on 31" tires and a standard height suspension probably won't beat the bejeezus out of you. Going with bigger shoes and a higher lift can get pretty expensive and may open up a can of worms.

But I still can't believe how much sellers are asking for these things.

Ditto. I thought my uncle was nuts paying what he did back then... and there are people who are willing to pay more!

Kinda like the Mazda Miata... there's nothing else quite like it, so secondhand prices are extraordinarily high.... and the SiR... but now that newer cars are getting faster, it's starting to depreciate normally... kasalanan kaya ng Lynx RS? (OT na sobra)

But I kinda understand the feeling. I've got dibs on my uncle's LC when he goes back to the US... ...another uncle's trying to restore a 70's Land Rover, and I want to get the LC in shape for some real hard-core off-roading so I can go along with him when he finishes.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
