Situations where the airbag will/will not/might work

This is in response to a thread i saw in protegetech about airbags not deploying, and in the past na rin about the nlex smashup posted here where the owner of a rear-ended everest complained about the airbag not deploying.

Attaching pictures from the manual of our 2005 mitsubishi outlander GLS.

sensya na labo ng pic, didn't have access to a scanner, but you could still make out the vital text and pictures anyway.

check you owner's manual na rin if it is the same for your car, if hindi outlander ride niyo.

hmmm...interesting.

so malabo pala yung ginawa doon sa isang steven segal (well malamang nga malabo) movie wherein he disarmed an enemy riding in a car by giving the front bumper a kick, thus deploying the airbag...

...come to think of it, kung pwede yung ganito, baka gawing MO ng carnappers ito - kick/slam the front section of a car in traffic to deploy the airbags, disoriented driver gets out, carnappers take over the vehicle...scary.

Huwag naman sana. Medyo malakas dapat yung impact to the front end in order to deploy the airbags, and the subsequent damage it would cause may not be worth their effort in forcibly taking the vehicle.

Actually, it really depends on the vehicle. Some vehicles need just a small sharp thud on the front to deploy the airbags, like a swift kick or... as in another (true to life) video... a lady's handbag across the front bumper. Others aren't this sensitive, but any airbag-equipped car will deploy an airbag if you drive head-on (straight, no angle at ALL) into a wall at 20 km/h.

And, from the other thread, the situations depicted in the first post are exactlythe same situations cited by other manufacturers as cases in which airbags will and will not go off.
