It depends on the extent of the damage that's why it's better to have your suking mekaniko assess things first. If there is damage to the engine block, some suggest having the block repaired at a machine shop while i myself would rather look for a surplus block or even fresh engine then recondition it before dropping it in.

I would agree with Vinj. Damage to the engine is hard to repair. If you've only got worn out gaskets from overheating then all you need is a top overhaul but anything worse than that... Well... Let's just say that replacing the engine would save you more in terms of time and resources.
