It really depends on how bad of a quality the fake oil filters are, there are times na lalabas kagad symptoms like oil leaking from the bad quality oil filter from its rubber gasket, other symptoms are exploding oil filters which is worse since either the filter could not take extreme pressure, others might take years to know the extent of the damage when you're going to overhaul an engine na, since bad filters will not filter out the contaminants from your engine and those contaminants will the ones that will be damaging your engine parts like piston, piston ring, cylinder liner, con rod bearing & other parts that are being lubricated by the contaminated engine oil, always remember kahit anong ganda pa ng engine oil mo once paired with a bad filter the engine oil will not perform as it says it could perform since the engine oil will be mixing with dust, ashes & other contaminants. Also take note AIR and FUEL filters are as important as the oil filter dahil once contaminants passes through the air and fuel filter it will still contaminate the engine and the engine oil, running an engine with a good filter and good oil will not do you any good if you use a cheap China generic or private label/brand or K&N & other racing filters since in the end you'll end up getting the same contaminants in the engine and in the engine oil every time your engine sucks air/oxygen through the bad air filter and dirty fuel from the bad fuel filters.

Finally someone who agrees with me re: K&N air filters. I've been saying that for years. The way they achieve more flow is to have a lot less efficient filtration. They try to argue it's only within a percent or so, but over a few thousand kms run that's gonna be a lot of contaminants sandpapering your engine.
