went to true value ATC yesterday and looked around for synthetic oils...how would you know kung totoong synthetic oil? I mean iba-iba nakasulat eh, meron 100% synthetic, yun iba fully synthetic, yun iba naman synthetic lang nakasulat...
so among those na nabanggit ko ano yun totoong synthetic dyan? kasi I assumed na dapat 100% synthetic ang "real" synthetic...tama ba ako?

Actually, even many synthetic oils have mineral oil "stock". You have to really research to find out.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

November 20th, 2007 05:39 PM #10Hindi lahat ng synthetic oils ay talagang 100% synthetic. Majority are made from hydrocracked oils. Hydrocracked oils are very highly refined oils. These are called group III oils which are different from group IV oils. Group IV are true synthetics or man made.
Basically, Mobil sued Castrol for marketing and selling a group III oil as a full synthetic. The court ruled in favor of Castrol. So in effect the courts defined group III oils as full synthetics.
So now there are:
1. mineral oils or dino based oils
2. semi-synthetic oils which are oils that contain less than 30% synthetic stock
3. full synthetic oils that can be further classified into Group III and Group IV oils.
Nakakalito no.
