March 5th, 2013 10:45 PM #2well.. it is beside the engine and behind the fan's hot air path.. is it really heating up, or is it being heated up by the engine and the fan's hot air?
and how hot does it get? warm.. comfortably hot.. uncomfortably hot.. scalding hot..?

it is normal for it to get hot. the current flowing to the field coil and the current flowing out of the stator windings make up most of the heat. that is why, the fan is either integrated into the pulley end of the shaft or in newer delco remy alternators the fan is inside the housing on the carbon brush end. as long as you have the right fan blade rotation, it should be okay.
