June 18th, 2013 07:17 PM #1hi Fellow tsikoters
Are Car batteries' life dependent on high temperature ( other than usage) use. i mean like mga trucks the batteries are placed outside the
engine bay so yung life nila mas matagal kasi outside its not as hot as inside the engine bay just like sa mga cars.
what do you think? pasensya na naisip ko lang kasi mga trucks parang longer ang life ng batteries compared sa cars.
thanks

June 18th, 2013 07:46 PM #3car battery life depends on:
1-vibration or absence thereof
2-temperature
3-cycling between fully charged to less than 75% and back
4-design; more cell plates or gel type or AGM type
5-other conditions such as level of electrolyte, corrosion, quality of electrolyte, contamination

para sakin parang myth. battery makers have rnd for normal road conditions.

Truck's batteries that are located outside are more prone to break down due to its breathers which is exposed to dust & moisture. Which sometimes or during rainy season, water can sip inside this breather caps without resistance

Actually, it's true. Although it's not necessarily the case on why truck batteries lasts longer (there's too many variables in place).
For simplicity sake, I'll just term it easily: Given the same battery and a variable temperature, a car's battery life is shorter in hotter temperatures because there's less water in the plates. As rule of thumb, every 8 degrees Celsius above... 25C cuts the battery life in half. However, ambient temperature is different from the actual temperature inside the plates as insulation varies.
Mina_nuka phrases it greatly as there's too many variables in place. But in general, want a longer lasting battery? Get a bigger one. It's sad to compare smallish batteries of ordinary cars versus huge batteries of trucks.Last edited by jhnkvn; June 19th, 2013 at 01:21 AM.

ang importante sa baterya eh makapal at good quality ang plates for it to last long.

It's also important to note that trucks do more long-distance driving than cars. Short trips and cold running can drain the batteries, they don't have time to recharge properly.

truck battery usually N150/200 ung mga none maintenance free diba? compared sa private vehicle na usually maintenance free battery.
