August 12th, 2013 09:30 PM #5well-stocked shops have replacement parts and windings for the more popular brands. it takes only an hour or two, for the turn-around time, depending on how fast the worker moves and how many workers there are. but it takes significantly more time if the guy has to run out the back door and scoot over to the parts shop to get his replacements.. and it would take much more time if they were to rewind from scratch..
based on what you said, yung housing na lang yata ang hindi pinalitan... heh heh. i agree, a surplus unit might have been the more attractive choice, but hey! at least now, your starter is practically re-manufactured..
3K does sound surplus...

the problem with your thread is that there was no mention of on car test, no mention of bench test of the alternator. people tend to go to extremes immediately. a common filipino trait. we, as a people like to go to extremes, e.g. "pinaka", mega star (not even michael jackson when he was alive was not considered mega star despite of his worldwide fame). the "mechanic" should have done test first before condemning the alternator. the most common parts to malfunction in an alternator are worn out brushes, worn or coated slip rings, defective voltage regulator and defective bearings or worn out belt. what happened to your alternator might only be worn out brushes or poor electrical contact between brushes and the slip rings. look for a competent auto electrician, remember, not all things in a car are mechanical. most components in today's cars are beyond comprehension of these "mechanics"Last edited by jick.cejoco; August 12th, 2013 at 09:56 PM.
