Second, while the Longbridge facility still exists as a research center, their cars are designed jointly with Shanghai. You have a few British employees but the vast majority of MG's employees are in China. Again, this is different from the likes of Volvo which still have over 60% of employees in Sweden.

Third, the cars are very, very different in identity now than they were with the original MG brand which rose to prominence with roadsters and coupes. Today, they essentially make mass-market econoboxes with low price points. In contrast, Land Rover still makes luxury 4x4s, Volvo still keeps its premium heritage rooted heavily on safety.

Ultimately, Jaguar and Land Rover retained their British spirit even after they were sold to Tata (and Ford before that). Volvo retains its Swedish roots even after the Geely acquisition (and again Ford before that). MG is a completely different marque now than it was 2 decades ago - one that is heavily influenced by its parent company, SAIC.

Noted. Agreed. But it is only a matter of time before these other brands will follow suit and do it the MG way, IMHO. You probably notice the pattern now and inevitable trend.

Maybe not considering India is a viable location now for automobile manufacturing, tariffs are also lower compared to that of China (if you're looking at the UK-Ireland market only).

Maybe, may be not. Lets observe the next move of Daimler Benz and Aston Martin.

In the case of Volvo et al, if I am the business owner, prudence and economics dictate that production location be moved to a cheaper and more efficient plant, hence, my prediction that it is a matter of time.

Daimler/Benz already partnered with Geely for a joint venture to develop SMART and revive it as an electric car brand, not sure if micro or mini car size still but that's the latest news.

But companies joining hands in R&D is the best move to lower their costs and spread out the use of those technologies between partners.

Correct sir. With all these synergies and cooperation, in the end it is the customer who benefits

Let us hope the Chinese will not be tempted to take any drastic short cut when it comes to safety and quality.

Under strict supervision, Chinese products can be as good as anyone's. Without? That's where all the variables come in. Those who've had the Chinese Way experience will agree they will say yes to any demand....& they're not always about quality.
