You can now reserve a BYD Sealion 6 DM-i ahead of its PH launch on July 25 | TopGear PH
The Sealion 6 is essentially a plug-in hybrid, but unlike typical PHEVs, the Super DM-i technology here propels the vehicle using the electric motor instead of the combustion engine. The ‘Blade Battery’ provides all-electric range of up to 100km depending on driving conditions, and if it begins to run out of juice on the road, the engine kicks in as a range extender to recharge the battery and stretch the range up to 1,000km.

It has an ICE engine, albeit it works as a generator only ... daw
EV range is only 100km. Very limited. Not practical. But you can plug it to recharge.
but hybrid range is 1,100km. You have to gas up and make sure the tank is filled.
But it is not similar to the Nissan e-Power tech.
Or is it???? Kopya na naman?

I think the difference from the other hybrids is that the electric motor is the primary mover, then the ICE runs, and charges the electric motor after 100 kms. But you can choose to plug-in and keep using the electric motor midway.

July 26th, 2024 10:01 AM #5it would appear, it's just like the kicks e power, except for the "added convenience" of the plug-in recharge capacity.
personally, i have to see just how much that electric plug-in recharge will cost the meralco bill, vis a vis gasoline to do the same.
offhand, i don't think i will bother with plugging in the vehicle for a measely 100 km, and just let the gas engine do the recharging painlessly for me for a 1000 km range with full tank.
that is, if i had one.
at 1.5M++... e-power na lang siguro...Last edited by dr. d; July 26th, 2024 at 11:29 AM.

The futuristic rotating display scares me. That screen controls everything including the AC.

I think this Sealion 6 (SL6) has the option to use ICE, EV or combo-- unlike Nissan e-power.
I'm still trying to find info if ICE can fully charge the battery without needing to plug-in, like the e-power. It will do regen braking, but this is not enough to fully charge it.
Asking because even in Australia, condo owners without access to charging in their condo parking makes this a deal breaker. I suspect it will be the same here in Metro Manila.

November 20th, 2024 08:55 PM #9We drove recently our SeaLion 6 from the metro to Pico de Loro. Heavily loaded. Distance was 85 kms and it took 61% of the battery charge. Found a 240V outlet at Pico de Loro and recharged the battery and had the same result coming back to Manila. In total 25kW consumed for 170 kms. We charge regularly at home with a portable charger and the fuel guage has not moved since the car was purchased. So far, all ok.

Ewan ko lang pero first time kong nakita eto sa street, parang yung exterior of this looks like mashup of a cayenne trying to be a lexus, vice versa or whatever.
Lumalabas parang 140km lang range ng battery niyan sa full charge. Anyway, hindi maganda sentiments ng iba rito when it comes to chinese brands. Pero dami nga nilang ev jan for sale locally.
