It is a turbocharged gas engine, not like the low output 1.4L or 1.5L NA engines. The engine has a similar output as the VW 1.4T used on the Jetta, Golf, and A3. The Chevy Cruze is in the same category as the Civic, Altis, Focus, and Mazda3.

Aside from the WRX, only the Civic RS is the turbo compact car to sell well locally. The Jetta and Golf 1.4T are good cars but VW had to sell them at a discount to clear their inventory. The Focus Ecoboost is not selling well despite being packed with features. The Chevy Trax is not that popular also. The Veloster is quite expensive for what it can offer.
