Electronic Gear Selector / Electronic Gear-shift

I have a question. i wonder what your thoughts are on this new technology: electronic gear selector.

Will this be the standard in future cars now, the way the push-start button is today?

It seems like if you plan to buy a new car, mas maganda mag-intay sa bagong model na meron nang electronic gear selector.

Honda Legend and Honda CRV (the latest 2017 model) have this.

So far, these three are starting to pop-up on most new cars:

1. Push/start button - a lot of cars have this now, when 5 years ago, ang hi-tech nya tingnan.
2. Electronic Park brake - Montero has this, Everest doesn't have. CRV has this too.
3. Electronic Gear Selector - CRV has this (aside from Honda Legend).

I wonder if the 2018 Ford Everest and other 2018 cars would have this as a feature.

Electronic gear selector is not new... some tourist bus already have this tech.. saw one in our field trip the bus we used have PRND buttons on dash

just electric actuators, servos, etc instead of manually actuated. reliability depends on whether your arms/fingers are more reliable than electric stuff

then soon we'll have self-driving cars

well, some folks still prefer manual transmission.
sometimes, the simpler gadgets are the more reliable ones.

Hmm, the stick shift on a 2005 mazda3 actually just pushes buttons underneath the gated panel. Same for steering wheel paddle shifters.... they're just buttons.

1. Dami sa banawe and olx nito if gusto mo pakabit. Meron ung pinaka mahal na brand is integrated sya sa alarm mo and capable of doing remote engine start.

2. Trust me, i have a car na may electric parking brake and I hate that feature. Most of the time i feel it's too slow to react, engaging or disengaging. Umusad na oto sa harap ko and ako nag aantay pa mag retract ung electric hand brake. LOL

Worst case, pag nagluko, sigurado ititirik ka pa. Pampalubag loob lang on honda's EPB implementation, may brake hold function sya which is helpful sa stop and go trapik. Pero not all cars with EPB have brake hold function like sa monty na wala.

3. Ok sya to save space lalo na if marami ka abubot nilalagay sa oto/center console in particular.

Thanks Janemar. Your comment on #2 is interesting. Akala ko pa naman, electronic parking brakes will make my stop & go sa traffic faster! Kase button na lang sya. So hindi pala?

Pero, with Honda's brake hold function, you think it can make it faster? I wonder how it works, if I have to push the EPB then the brake hold function? Or just the brake hold function? I guess I will have to test-drive the new Honda CR-V.

Initially kase I wanted to buy Ford Everest, but then it doesn't have Push/Start button, and no EPB like the one in Montero.

Yes it's much faster to just use Brake Hold during stop lights. Just turn it on, then whenever you're at a complete stop whether in D or N, the car applies just enough pressure on the brakes to keep the car firmly stopped. The moment you step on the accelerator, Brake Hold disengages and you can go your merry way without having to press or wait for anything.

Electronics are getting cheaper and becoming more reliable. With most car manufacturers' aim to increase fuel economy, every ounce of weight reduction from different parts here and there adds up.

About the only primary analog controls you have left in a car are the steering, accel. pedal and the brakes. Everything else that can be either on or off are being replaced by actuators.

question on electronic parking brake. can you apply it when the vehicle is in motion and tranny is in gear? kasi one function of the hand brake is also to act as an emergency brake. kung hindi mag-engage ang electronic parking brake e di hindi siya pwedeng emergency brake?
