Yesterday, I had to go to an unfamiliar place down south. I used my GPS, loaded with OSM, to plot me a route and I had to pass thru Bicutan, the service road all the way to Alabang then Alabang-Zapote road.

Unfortunately, there was a big accident involving a trailer in SLEX and it affected the traffic a lot, including the skyway. So, i was stuck at the service road and thought about using the detour function of my GPS in the hope that it would find me a way out of there.

So it told me to take the next right turn and I went into a gated subdivision. I was following the route it said but I reached the end of the road with a locked gate in the end. As I turned around, it plotted me again with another route and I felt we were going places na. Then when it instructed me to turn right going nearer to a major road, the road was walled off! Damn!

I had no choice but to back track going back to the service road. I spent too much time at the service road and SLEX was still traffic so I took a gamble at Sucat road this time. The GPS pointed me again to some gated villages but I have heard of these villages with "Friendship" gate passes so I knew there would be an exit somewhere further down south. I took a gamble and tailgated a car going in on the w/ sticker lane. Sorry, I was a bit desperate.

Then the GPS really did its work already, pointing me the fastest way going to my destination. I was afraid that I would end up again on a walled or gated road but my gamble paid thru. I was still extremely late arriving at my destination but I would like to share you this, be prepared to get frustrated if in case you are going to the Las Pinas / Paranaque area relying on your GPS only. Stick to the main roads and you'll be ok.
