Need guidance for second hand car: Insurance, paper et al.

Good day to everybody at Tsikot community. I am about to buy my daughter a second hand car, as this is the first time I am going to buy a car in the Philippines, I am not familiar with how the paper trail goes. I lived in Australia and now in UK and always drive a car with fully comprehensive insurance which is always advisable in both countries.Now I found the car I want for my daughter it's a 1996 Hyundai Elantra with a manual transmission she will be the 3rd owner. As far as I know it is newly registered to the recent owner(2nd owner). The car is in good condition and the colour suits my daughter

I've asked for a quote with 3 different insurance company in the Philippines and all of them informed me that they don't insured car over 10 years old or cars which is less than 200 thousand in value, as they don't have a facility for it. [SIZE=4]Big question how are the normal people whose cars are older than 10 years old drive around the country with out insurace do it?[/SIZE] I can afford to buy my daughter a more expensive car but for a first time car driver it's wise to drive and get more experience in older car till she get used to it. Sorry for my long story just worried that it is complicated to drive back home.

Dont you want to consider other brands? Being a third owner for me is not a question, as long as the unit is still in a great shape and the papers are fine.

If you want to make sure, check it first with TMG if its not a hot/carnapped vehicle.

What do you mean another brand? As in another model, well I've been looking for a car since January, and already weighted my options and I've seen the car that I want, although only online and made correspondence with the seller,it's a private sell.And my brother is a police officer who should know the how to stuff, I am more worried about insurance, I always drive with full comprehensive,just worried about my daughter's sake. It just seems the insurance in the Philippines is a bit questionable to those who drive cars older than 10. Thanks for your reply. Cheers

if i may ask, how much is your budget? there are better cars than the elantra, i think, and can only make you and your daughter as the second hand owner.

with regards to the comprehensive insurance, there are some companies that can insure your car even though it is more than 10 years old. but we all know that the premium that you may pay for a 10 year old car may not be cost beneficial in the end.

Hi, Is it really bad the Elantra? I never really driven a Korean car. I just thought that because it's her first car buying her an expensive car and being a first time driver something driveable will do for now and she can upgrade to better one in a year or twobut please do suggest something. I'vealways driven European carBMW and Mercedez so I don't have much knowledge with Japanese car or such, I do have a budget from100k to200 so depends on the car really. Cheers.

BTW Thank you very much for that simple information that you provided, all I really need to know was yes there is a company that will do a full comprehensive although a car is more than 10 years old and you've answered my biggest question. I think it's a just a piece of mind of having that insurance , doesnt matter if it's not beneficial in the long run will cross the bridge when we get there. Once again thank you

100-200K will be able to get you a corolla or lancer models as well.. parts are cheap and you can find everywhere. also maintenance won't be such a hassle for your daughter..

agree. and there are also nissans out three within the price range. aside from the parts and maintenance requirements, you would get to have them insured without much hassle, because insurance companies would tend to disapprove certain old cars based on the brand and value.

nothing against the elantra, but i really do not trust old korean car models, except for a few.
