May 1st, 2019 01:20 PM #3I think you misunderstood that.
This is a known bank and not some shady AF bank. You can easily check their offers, if any.
I don't think any legit bank offers such a 5% interest rate per month for savings, be it gross or net.
Most likely, you might be referring to Time Deposit Offers, but misunderstood the annual rate to be a monthly rate.
Better straighten out the details, and just contact East West bank properly rather than rely on second hand info.

May 1st, 2019 02:38 PM #10If I recall the ad correctly, you need to have a Time Deposit of around 2.5m php to have that TD rate (per the facebook ad I saw). I think gross rate was 5.5 as advertised. It is honestly too high an asking price.
For it to be "tax free" from the 20% withholding tax, you need to not take out the money for 5 years. Hehe!
It is standard with long term investment of at least 5 years to waive the withholding tax. This is not something special East West Bank will offer, other banks offer the same.
The rate though of 5.5% per annum gross with a 5 year holding period, not enticing when there are other options, also with banks that have shorter terms but with with holding tax.
