Designed and mga fuel tank na may allowance for expansion nung fuel in case of change of temperature. Masama yung sinasagad yung pag full tank, tatapon lang, and ma bypass pa yung safety feature na ito.

That's right. Filling up to the max should not even be an option specially in this climate.

PUJs do this dance and jig every single night, before going to the jeepbarn to sleep.

they fill up to overflowing, then shake the jeep to and fro, then fill 'er up again to overflowing.
the shaking gets rid of air bubbles trapped under the tank's flat top.
it's the only way of guaranteeing fairness to the incoming driver the next morning.

I've seen that. There's got to be a better way.

I top-up on Diesels but stop at the fist-click on gasoline.

Gasoline tanks have charcoal cannisters that should never be exposed to raw gasoline. Diesel vehicles do not.

While diesel is not as flammable as gasoline, there is the chance of spilling and the associated mess and smell.

They have no business saying that.

There's that possibility, yes. But in the last 9+ years doing it, I've never been that unlucky. Them attendants are skilled enough to eyeball it without spilling a drop.

Also, my car is a daily driver, so by the time I've driven a few KM after topping-up, the fuel would've gone down the filler neck several inches.

    To substantiate that claim:
My 1GD Diesel engine, running at idle, consumes anywhere between 0.7 to 1.3 Liters per Hour (L/Hr) of Diesel fuel... depending on where the A/T shift lever is or what the A/C compressor is doing. So, I can compute that letting it idle for just 5 minutes would've consumed between 58mL to 108mL of fuel. And to reiterate, that's just pure idling. In reality though, I would've likely been driving that 5 minutes so the engine would've used up more fuel.
