IIRC the amount of energy required to split the hydrogen and oxygen atoms from a water molecule exceeds the amount of energy you get from recombining them (e.g. fuel cell).
Nuclear subs use electric energy from their reactors/generators to get oxygen from seawater for the crew and hydrogen for their standby fuel cells.

You'd think with the hundreds or even thousands of "inventors" pushing "over-unity" electrolysis machines, the major manufacturers would have picked one up by now... but nooooo... they're all in cahoots with the major oil companies to keep making gas guzzling cars.

Except when they're building hybrids and EVs... whoops. Mga traydor... I guess the oil companies are going to shut down Toyota/Ford/BMW/Mercedes/etcetera now... huh?
