August 10th, 2010 02:19 PM #1Mga Sir,
Corolla Bigbody 2E 1.3 carbed engine ko model 1995xl.
I measured my Fuel Consumption (FC) using the full tank method.
For City driving = 5.55Km/Li
For Highway driving = 7.33Km/Li
Any suggestions on how I can increase my FC?
I have already done the following:
1. Cleaned my card with carb cleaner (sprayed inside while high revving)
2. Changed my fuel filter
3. Oil Changed, replaced oil filter
4. Replaced high tension wires (thick diameter type)
5. Replaced spark plugs (4 split tip type)
6. Changed PCV valve
I dont know if what I've done so far relates to increasing my FC, but if you have any effective ideas, it would definitely be appreciated.
Thanks and regards...

Has the carb been tuned or overhauled? That is not normal. You've also checked your driving style (shift points, heavy foot? heavy load?)....

August 10th, 2010 02:41 PM #3Sir,
Di naman po ako heavy in the pedal and kami lang ng wife koload nung car, both our body weight is on average as well
The carb was not tuned or overhauled yet, I just sprayed carb cleaner..
Would overhauling and tuning the carb make the big difference?
How much would it cost to have it done?
Or can I Do it Myself? I like to learn new things po kasi..

August 11th, 2010 11:13 AM #10Wow! Mababa yan Bro.
I sold my 1993 XE 1.3 na but same kami ng FC ni adapilado.
Yup check your timing also. Baka either naka Retard or Advance. Dapat 10degrees lang as per the book, but you can try 12degrees for a little bit more power on the pedal. Either 10 or 12 degrees timing, your Right foot is always in control.
Relax lang sa apak, try to limit your apak range to atleast within 1inch and just let the engine do the work...Your 1.3 engine will not become a 2.0 engine even if apakan mo ng todo yang pedal mo so properly ready and anticipate the slope of the roads para hindi pilit ang makina.
Another thing, ano na reading ng mileage mo?
Is there oil on your sparkplugs and tailpipe?
Baka may engine compression issue = overhaul?

Change oik every 3k kms reading with Toyota oil 20w-50 (made by Caltex) = Php 155 per liter, Toyota Denso sparkplugs = Php 55 each (change sparkplugs every change oil din)
