January 29th, 2008 08:21 PM #1Hi, there.
I plan to get a baby SUV and have decided on the Tucson.
(I think its cute, I like the aqua silver color, and I can plug in my ipod. Sorry guys, it's a girl thing)
The thing is, I'm not sure whether to get the CRDi or the gas version. I keep hearing that diesel is cheaper, but...
The price difference is P130,000. Diesel is about P6.00 cheaper than Unleaded. It means I need to get roughly around 433 full tanks before I get a return on the additional investment.
Are there any other factors that I need to consider? Does the diesel version consume less fuel volume? Will it be easier to maintain?
I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks

433 full tanks is like... assuming 1 full tank a week, that's 108 months or almost TEN YEARS.
the diesel tucson would retain its value better though... pero am sure >5 years pa rin ang break-even point.

The CRDi version of the Tucson is a notch above its petrol powered counterpart. And yes, it consumes less fuel.
Please do read niky's take on the Tucson CRDi:

get the crdi. Though it only has 112hp over the gas 142hp, it has more torque and that's the thing you need more in a compact suv. FYI, the new tucson is the old santa fe body.

yup, the diesel engine consumes less fuel. as much as 40% less (sometimes even greater) than gas engines. so you have to factor that in too in your calculations. anyway, i estimate around 5-6 years nga ang bawi mo sa fuel/mileage savings.
in that light, if you plan to keep it longer, get the diesel. otherwise, the gas version would be more practical. take note also that diesel engines are usually over-engineered, thus heavier, to cope with the high compression, so its made to last for a long time. on the otherhand, it's still prone to spew smoke because of our dirty diesel fuels.
personally, i'd get the diesel.
good luck and hth

January 30th, 2008 05:49 PM #8I got the crdi Sportage - and very happy with it. FC is very efficient, I get 8km/li city driving with morning and evening rush hour traffic and get 12-15km/li long provincial drives (to Baguio, Tagaytay and Batangas). Higher torque (meaning greater pulling power) and sportier drive quality are the other crdi advantages. The Sportage is the same Tucson in a different body (sharper looks, leather interiors and textured vinyl vs. the Tucson) and suspension package (sportier, harder tuned - which means a bit more matagtag but less body roll when cornering) plus 4wd vs. only 2wd Tucson.

Actually, in my test drive of the Tucson 4x2 CRDi, I noted that the ride was also firm. Body roll in turns was well controlled, and the chassis was as playful as a puppy.
But I think the Sportage might just be the better package. It's better looking on the inside, at least.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I am interested in the Tucson and weighing the option between the diesel and gas. How much is the maintenance cost of the diesel & gas tucson and fuel cost?
TIA
