From what I have read here, the gas Fort does around 5-6km/L. Innova, only around +1km/L. Not very significant difference especially considering the difference of 700cc in displacement.

Compared to their diesel counterparts, they're quite cheap in the used car market. Good buy if you don't mind the fuel cost.

Why not consider a gas-fed CUV like a CRV or Forester? Assuming you just need to ferry 5 people, CUVs are better in terms of refinement and handling compared to an Innova or Fortuner. If you need a 5+2 vehicle, the 2nd gen Sorento (2010-2014) is a good one. These vehicles have the same fuel consumption as a gas-fed Innova and Fortuner.

^Biggest advantage of Fortuner or Innova would be parts availability. The one thing I hate about my Santa Fe is the scarcity of model specific trim parts.

CRV is a good choice though. I've seen aftermarket 3rd rows for models that don't have them, and they don't cost much.

*TS: How much is the budget, by the way?

7-8 is already 1.6A/T territory. I know that because a family friend who drives a 2014 Altis gets as much.

If you need the 3rd row often, do consider that the Innova and Fortuner do not have much cargo space left with the 3rd row up. You may have to get yourself a van. Starex GRX or 2nd gen Carnival will fit your budget.

I mean, I read that the gas Fort gets 5-6 thereabouts city driving. The 1.6 Altis CVT gets 7-8. So the gas Innova would be somewhere in between. Though bear in mind that consumption can vary depending on route and traffic conditions.

Check out personally if the Fortuner 3rd row is good enough for you. You may find it a bit cramped.
