July 12th, 2018 10:07 PM #1FM 2.8 4x4 M/T are quite rare and often expensive in the used car market. Not to mention that most of them are heavily used/abused.
With Japan surplus, it is a case of swerte swerte with the quality of the conversion. With my converted Granvia, conversion quality was actually considered "decent enough" by various mechanics and still I coughed up over 120k on initial repairs (most notably in the suspension and aircon departments) and upgrades for it to pass my daily driver standards. Now though it is a daily driver and has clocked 17tkms since joining the garage in mid 2016.
Since you mentioned that 4x4 is a necessity, might I suggest the 1st gen Ford Everest. It is the 1st and last Everest with a 4x4 M/T variant.
