She will be safe in the Yaris. It got 4 stars in most tests: 2007 Toyota Yaris Safety and Crash Tests - MSN Autos
The 3 is a class above in size though so it will feel heavier and more planted.

My wife also loathed the looks of the Yaris and wanted to buy the Mazda 3 1.6 (almost bought one but someone beat us to the particular unit we wanted to get)... that's why we ended up with the Altis also. If we got the Yaris, i would have upgraded it to the RS looks plus 17 inch rims. :D

Is it just me? I find this particular model of Mazda 3 too thirsty.
I had the chance to use a cousin's Mazda for a week. I computed 7 kms/litre in fuel consumption. My 1984 W123 200G (2.0 carb) constantly hits 8 kms/litre (4 speed lang ito ha!). Same distance and traffic conditions for both cars, aircon is on, same driving style.
My cousin's complain was also on fuel economy. She sold it.

Heavy body shared with Ford and relatively small 1.6L engine. The 2.0 is reportedly more economical.
The new Skyactiv 2.0 is a lot thriftier though. I'm waiting for the 1.5 Skyactiv for the lighter-bodied 2014 model.Last edited by JohnM; January 2nd, 2014 at 01:57 PM.
