Hi, we' re planning to buy a family van, my family and household help = 8 people. We can't decide which one to buy among the three- Yung GL Grandia doesn't have too much space for the luggage and the seats are not too comfortable daw lalo na kung long drive ? The New starex naman may problem daw sa suspension? The Super Grandia has captain seats but does it really make any difference sa bench seats sa GL Grandia? . We wanted a van na malamig a/c , comfortable seats and di malakas sa gas.Any input/ opinion will be appreciated. Thanks

Test drive them all. See the one that suits you the best.

Ano kaya problema ng Starex sa suspension? hehehe. Baka naman kalampag or ingay lang, madali naman gawin iyon and covered ng 3year warranty.

Kung uncomfortable yung seats, hindi mo ata pwede i-warranty iyan.

The Super Grandia is nice but seems overpriced.

My 2006 M/T Starex CRDI gets 10 km/liter (mostly highway driving). I don't know the mileage figures for a Hiace though. Okay pa naman suspension ng Starex, pero 5 months pa lang naman yung sasakyan. It can take the terrible condition of McArthur Highway between Urdaneta and Tarlac in stride, although as other Starex owners have noted, the ride of the Starex is a bit "bouncy" or "boaty."

As Otep suggested, test drive all of them to get a better idea of their handling characteristics.

The GL Grandia and Super Grandia are really humongous beasts. I think the Commuter will be sufficient for carrying 8 passengers even with cargo. I think places like SeatMate can convert the Commuter's bland interiors and bench seats into individual captain chairs and other upgrades. One thing to watch out for is its D4-D engine which may have engine problems, on a case to case basis.

Thank you sa mga inputs ha, not possible to test drive the Grandia since walang available sa showroom, every Toyota dealer is given 1 unit per month lang daw so pipila ka pa rin. Malaki ba ang difference ng Starex's CRDi with Grandia's D-4D. Are you telling me na mas okay ang CRDi ng Starex? Excuse my ignorance ha. Hindi rin ba comfortable seats ng Grandia?

Never buy a vehicle without a proper test drive. If they don't allow you to test drive a vehicle prior to purchase, why waste your money on them?

Baka may hindi ka pala magustuhan sa sasakyan na matutuklasan mo lang kapag nakapagbayad ka na. Example, Fortuner owners complaining that the ride is 'harsh'. For me the ride of the Fortuner is tolearable (I've test driven one kahit wala na kami sa pila that time), but I guess owners were expecting something else. So it always pays to test drive no matter what the brochure, reviews, forums say.

Starex CRDi makes 145bhp, Toyota D4d makes 102bhp. Factor in weight, gearing, aerodynamics, etc. Mahihilo ka lang. Just do a test drive to see if power is adequate for you. The Starex CRDi system also seems to tolerate local conditions better. Wala naman siyang 'Starex CRDi woes' thread unlike the D4d. Again, this does not happen to all D4d units.

my choice is starex.. mas comfortable ako dun.. i like driving it when going out of town, comfortable pati ang mga pasahero ko.. pati ako na nagdridrive, relax din, captain seat + cup holder with coffee.. A/T pla yung sa amin.. relax, malaming ang aircon.. hehehe..

with regards sa suspensions, wla pa nman ako na-experience anything sa 4 years ng starex nmin with 40,000 kms, wla pa nman ako naging major problem.. tipid kse diesel compared to gas regarding sa fuel cost..

about being ''bouncy'' yes, medyo bouncy nga yung starex pag napapadaan ako sa mga humps dito sa amin.. parang nka hydraulics.. hehehe.. but at least hndi ko ramdam ang lalim ng lubak..

sorry kung biased ako sa answer ko..

just read the threads regarding the D4D woes and the walk-around first impressions ng mga tsikot experts sa grandia.

ako nga kahit walang test drive (no offense doc otep...hehehe) starex ang binili namin, based also on the favorable reviews here, except of course, dun sa OEM tires which could easily be replaced.

    but that's just me...
