February 26th, 2009 01:26 AM #7I had a 95 ultra eagle before but sold it 2-3 years ago. The earlier ones had a better interior with a leathertte top overlay in the side panels vs. newer ones that had all cloth sidings. This was actually my choice before but i opted for the nissan looking at a few b2500s. Here's why:
1. super cold freezing AC
2. better fuel economy - 9-10km/l in the city on 30" tires
3. looks better when lifted - like a terrano or pathfinder
4. better interior for me
5. steel cylinder head so no warping when you overheat
6. super light power steering
7. super light clutch
8. more available parts: surplus / brand new / replacements
9. timing gear not timing chain nor timing belt so no unexpected snapping
10. felt easier and was very light to drive like a car
11. not a smokey diesel - not sure about mazda
12. better resale value - probably highest in its class
13. excellent suspension - no kalampag whatsoever
14. tight gear box like a car
15. cheap parts
16. for me, it looked better than the b2500
17. quiet BD25 diesel engine
18. hard to find b2500 with good interior - especially preserved door sidings - at least during that time i was looking around.
Here are a few things i dont like about the eagle:
1. The baby chassis (3 lateral bars holding the bed in place on top of the main chassis) has no drain holes for the water to leak out. So if you get a poorly maintained eagle, the baby chassis is well rusted out and may have eaten the bed. What i did was i hired a tinsmith and had him make 3 baby chassis with three large drain holes each and i had it waterproofed and had the bed repaired for P6k. No more rust.
2. No power mirror on my version. You have to spend P10k for surplus set. Not really a big deal if you're the only one using the vehicle but hassle if you are sharing the vehicle with someone else.
3. No remote gas tank opener
