IMO I find the survey kinda disturbing. No questions asked about Japanese & German made cars in a Top 3 survey but American made car in a top 10??? Heleerrrr??? What??? the German & Swedish cars were even below industry average.... :arghhh:

JD Powers is a properly audited and very well respected survey. Their results are reliable.

This VDS survey covers three-year reliability of the vehicles surveyed... which means 2011 releases. Ford's low numbers can almost completely be attributed to problems with MyFordTouch. Without those niggles, it should score average on the survey.

Note: the difference between Toyota (highest mass market brand) and Hyundai (lowest mass market brand) is 114 to 169.

That means that out of 100 Toyotas, you will get 1.14 problems with each car. With Hyundai, 1.69 problems.

So, you have a 100% chance of having a problem with your Toyota, and a 14% chance of having a second problem. With your Hyundai, you have a 100% chance of having a problem, and a 69% chance of having another problem. The difference between Hyundai and the average is a 30% greater chance of having a SECOND problem within three years. Consider the only brand with a statistical chance of having NO problems within three years is Lexus...

Mind you, without a breakdown of the results, it is hard to say whether those problems will affect local Hyundais. Remember, Hyundai USA gets direct injection gasoline (not available here) engines, gasoline turbos (not available here) and hybrids (not available here). Our model mix is very different.

In this case, having the Consumer Reports scores for the models would be helpful, to pinpoint where people are having problems. Kung steering rack, eh di... alam mo na.

With Nissan and Mitsu, somewhat the same... Mitsu's offerings in 2011 were not great in the US, I don't know if they still had the Endeavor... but that will be carried mostly on Lancer and Galant results. Nissan's offerings are similar to here, but they have many more SUVs in the US, and we don't get the Altima or Maxima.

Again, a breakdown ala Consumer Reports would tell you a lot.
