August 16th, 2012 02:37 PM #1siguro on paper it was. but the build quality was really bad! the rubber/plastic molding near the windshield wipers would come off at speed. power locks and windows broke down after less than a year. road noise was really loud.
afaik it was also a SOHC 4G92 clone. not all parts were swappable (we changed the CV joints twice; the ones for the local lancer wouldn't fit). it did have a nice engine note when revved hard and handled pretty decently.

A then local Malaysian gov't representative family friend has one back in 97. A right hand drive unit. I remember it was nice, and my dad used to enjoy driving it. About the spotty build quality, it was not a Proton exclusive issue. The Lancer itlog itself has some quality issues on its mechanicals.
