September 3rd, 2012 01:05 AM #5Mine 03 altis automatic 9 to 11 pure city driving. Check for sludge sa engine and check foe unsual sound sa engine para sa timing chain. Up to now ok parin altis ko mayroon lang mga mga dents at lines he he.

September 3rd, 2012 03:06 AM #7to check for sludge, the easiest way is to remove the oil cap and visually inspect the cap for traces of gooey or solidified oil.
the most surefire way is to have a mechanic remove the valve cover and inspect the cams and valves.
btw, altis, vios, rav4 and camry are known to have this issue.
for city, its a frugal car that offers great fuel economy. the idsi engine requires 8 spark plugs instead of the usual 4.
if your planning to get an automatic, be wary of cvt issues. if known some people and relatives who have a city. all of them have damaged cvt transmission. surplus cvt costs 60k. also this car is very sensitive to the kind of fluids you use. only honda cvt-f must be used on the tranny. cvt-f costs about 600 per liter

Best bet is to find an 04 1.3 MT City.
You can make the CVT last a long time with proper maintenance and careful driving... but most people and, sadly, many dealerships did not realize this until too late.
But then, if you're getting an AT, it always pays to make sure. If an Altis has done a lot of kilometers and the ATF was not diligently maintained, it might already be slipping by this time and in need of a rebuild. We are talking about 8 year old cars here.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
