An amp will definitely improve the seps to push out better details.
I am also into those types of music. Since these are heavy on vocals, I think you will appreciate them more if they have a better a soundstage and imaging. aside from deadening the doors and getting an amp, include a processor and run your system on full-active. this will move the sweet spot better into your listening position and integrating your speakers properly without any localization.

May na-mention ba na cause of the fire? Usually fires are the product of faulty wiring more than amplifier problems. I mean, a lot of people in home audio have amplifiers - but I don't really believe they have fire extinguishers within arm's reach at all times.
But good point to have. Maghahanap nga

Just a side note, I do not believe amplifiers increase the amount of detail. Amplifiers just do their job - they "amplify" music.
Hearing details is usually a measure of two criterias: (1) balanced sound, and (2) output. The first one is important because if you have an unbalanced frequency range, some frequencies will naturally overshadow the others. This would translate into details you'll usually miss because your hearing is being dominated with a certain range of frequencies. Output is also important since if you turn down the volume, you'll miss out the very soft details in the music. For example, the start of My Chemical Romance' "The Black Parade" has the drummer hitting the high hat in a very soft manner and this is often missed by people.

Most faulty wirings are caused by using the wrong type of wire. Most audio wires should be oxygen-free, cheaper ones don't have this feature. As we all know, wires conduct heat, too much heat + oxygen + fuel(the insulating parts on the wire or some parts on the amp- like the oil in the caps) will cause that fire.
An external amplifier helps push out details because it has better capabilities than the amp section of the HU. Advantages are:
1. Cleaner THD levels
2. More power
3. Better Damping factor to control the drivers better
